COP Bureau

At its first meeting, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Minamata Convention on Mercury adopted the rules of procedure under which it would operate and elected Marc Chardonnens (Switzerland) President of the Conference of the Parties, as well as nine Vice-Presidents that together would form the Bureau. Officers were elected to serve at the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties, during the intersessional period and at the second meeting of the Conference of the Parties. David Kapindula (Zambia) was elected to serve as rapporteur.

The composition of the COP Bureau is as follows:

  • For Africa: David Kapindula (Zambia) and Serge Molly Allo’o Allo’o (Gabon);
  • For Asia and the Pacific: Mitsugu Saito (Japan) and Mohammed Kashashneh (Jordan);
  • For Central and Eastern Europe: Svetlana Bolocan (Moldova) and Karel Bláha (Czechia);
  • For Latin America and the Caribbean: Gregory Bailey (Antigua and Barbuda) and Miguel Ángel Espinosa Luna (Mexico);
  • For Western Europe and Others: Marc Chardonnens (Switzerland) and Nina Cromnier (Sweden).

For two days, from September 13th to 14th 2018, the COP Bureau held a face-to-face meeting, in Geneva, to discuss preparations for the upcoming second meeting of the Conference of the Parties. The report of the meeting will be published below as soon as it becomes available.
