Sobre el Convenio de Minamata
El Convenio de Minamata sobre el Mercurio es el acuerdo mundial más reciente sobre medio ambiente y salud, adoptado en 2013. Lleva el nombre de la bahía de Japón donde, a mediados del siglo XX, las aguas residuales industriales contaminadas con mercurio envenenaron a miles de personas y provocaron graves daños a la salud, lo que se conoció como la "enfermedad de Minamata".
Desde que entró en vigor el 16 de agosto de 2017, las Partes han estado trabajando juntas para controlar el suministro y el comercio de mercurio, reducir el uso, emisión y liberación de mercurio, concienciar al público y desarrollar la capacidad institucional necesaria para "Decir adiós al mercurio". #MakeMercuryHistory
