The Minamata Convention National Report Dashboard compiles the quantitative responses from the first full National Reporting under the Minamata Convention on Mercury, covering the period from 16 August 2017 to 31 December 2020, and was due on 31 December 2021. The full national report is composed of 43 multi-tiered questions on the implementation of the Convention.
The objective of this Dashboard is to provide users with complementary insights for analyzing the responses to the full national reports. For more detail and thoroughness, it is recommended to review the full national reports posted on the Convention's website.
The Dashboard has two sections: the reporting performance (pages 1 and 2) and the report results. The latter covers the quantitative responses to the 43 questions of the full national report.
The reporting performance is calculated based on the national reports submitted to the Secretariat of those that were Parties to the Convention as of 2020, a total of 123 Parties.
To help in navigating the report results section, the relevant Convention article is indicated in the header, followed by the applicable question from the report. The aggregated response of Parties is shown through a pie graph with the overall values in percentages and a stacked bar chart illustrating the data broken down by region. There are 135 data visualizations in total.
The data source of the Dashboard comes directly from the Parties’ response in the Online Reporting Tool (ORT) database and is communicated automatically and in real-time through an API (Application Programming Interface), which provides a standardized way for the ORT and the Dashboard to communicate with each other
As with all data processing, this is the first iteration of the Dashboard, which will continue to evolve in terms of technology and depth of information management. Future iterations of the Dashboard may explore cross-references and other ways of visualising data.
